Two shades of beige - 3 of 6

On this page there are three different elements

all specified as having the same color, 'web-safe beige', R255 G204 B153, or FFCC99, but produced in different ways. One is the page background, the other two are the two halves of a graphic item.

  • the page background is the browser's interpretation of FFCC99 in the html code;
  • the left-hand part of the graphic was made by asking Photoshop 5's color picker for color no. 255..204.153;
  • the right-hand part of the graphic was made by asking Mac OS8's color picker for color no. FFCC99 (= 255.204.153.)

If you'd like an explanation of the number system for computer colors, there are plenty around: you can find my own at

If everything worked as you think it should, you shouldn't even see that there's anything there, if it weren't for the brown corners and the labels.

I wonder what you can see... It can be different in Netscape from Explorer or Opera, in Photoshop or in HomePage, it can be different with 256 colors or with thousands of colors, it can be different on a Mac or a PC.
