SimpleCard for the Mac is quite simply the best way into the world of multimedia authoring; it's easy to us, versatile and cheap, the manual is a model of clarity, and you get some of most friendly and competent support there is, directly from the author himelf.
Between Mac users, it will serve you well for slide shows, hyper-linked documents, presenting music, speech or other sounds, games, puzzles, straight information, enhanced e-mails ...
Because it is simple, there are of course some things you don't get, notably movies, transitions between cards, compressed formats and a player for Windows: there are always alternatives, or course, though in this case they're in a different price class, take a lot more time to learn, and use up enormously more resources; so there are some notes on ways to work within those limitations

One great sadness is that SimpleCard doesn't work under OS 8.5; so you get to choose - G3/iMac or SimpleCard. Niklas says the program is on ice these days, and he simply hasn't time to maintain it
