9th International SEAL Conference

The King's School Canterbury, Kent, UK

29 March - 1/2 April 2001

'Opening Minds'

The format of the conference

Plenary speakers will present ideas and visions from quantum science, eco science, medicine, music and learning. Experiential and practical workshops will examine the application of this new thinking to the field of education and learning. We will showcase some of the wonderful initiatives where SEAL's innovative approaches have been and are being introduced with amazing results. 'Salad bowl' events will allow participants to present their ideas and experiences. A forum and open space learning will allow participants and specialists to share, compare and generate ideas with each other.

Quantum Learning Groups will provide not only support, but also a space for high level organic peer learning to take place. We have chosen this name to reflect the quantum nature of group interaction, recognising the principles of 'intimate entanglement and co-ordination' between members, 'which give rise to a coherent order extending over time and space'.

The Conference attracts a network of exceptionally skilled practitioners who are committed to achieving the very best for learners. The emphasis is on 'walking the talk': presentations and workshops which actually embody the holistic approach. In fact a SEAL conference is one of the few places where you can experience the holistic approach to learning in action throughout the event.

Familiar SEAL strands will be present: Nonviolent Communication, Suggestopedia, Accelerated Learning and NLP among others, along with some newcomers, for example Vedic Maths and Goethean science. Participants can even choose an extended experience of learning a new language through Suggestopedia!

The social programme will allow everyone to make the most of Canterbury, and of the talents of participants, and we will be supported by the wonderfully warm and accepting atmosphere which makes each SEAL conference such a unique and uplifting experience.

We are hugely encouraged by the active collaboration and support of the RSA (Royal Society of Arts) and the Campaign for Learning, both of whom share our vision and are involved in implementing innovative ideas in education in the UK.
