Vad är en dator?

Where are we now? This that I'm reading now, is it coming from outer space or where?

The writer can never know in advance where his web-pages are going to end up: it's in the nature of the web that anyone can access them, copy them, and distribute them. The Web means open information.

But my first thought is that these pages will be read from my server in Tartu, Estonia, at the Institute of Baltic Studies. But there might also be a packaged version which someone could download and keep on their own computer.

So, the fact that you read a document in 'web' format - HyperText Mark-up Language, HTML - on a web-browser, doesn't mean that the data must be coming from another computer via a cable: they can just as well come from the home computer's hard disc, from a CD-ROM disc, a diskette, from a Zip or Jaz cartridge, or another computer in the same room joined by a simple cable connection...

HOW DOES IT WORK?
