Let's say you have a photo with lots of small color-areas, so you want to save it as a JPEG: but you don't want it rectangular. So you would make the edges the same color as the page background, and the one would blend unnoticeably into the other. OK? |

But I was finding that in practice the 'same' color on the two elements could actually look rather different: so different that the page looked just silly and incompetently done... Or a delightful special effect, of course, depending on your viewpoint. So I thought it was time for a closer look... |
