From
the air, and from the ground, it's obvious
that there are two churches, the new and
the old, standing cheek by jowl on the
one inhabited hill, each apparently contesting
the relative importance of the other:
the one as a spiritual centre with relevance
to the souls
of a people seeking a connection with
a newly-adopted land, the other as a cultural
milestone with an influence stretching
back through twenty generations of firmly-rooted,
but hastily departed, inhabitants.
Actually
there is a third church, underneath the
foundations of the newest one... though
the story of that one must wait for another
time, and some more-serious
research...
