Presentation of text - 2 of 3

This is the main characteristic of the "active concert", so called because the students actively follow the text. The teacher's voice swells in the crescendos, diminishes with the diminuendos , and sings in the cantabile passages.

This active concert, which is the ceremony used to introduce every new lesson throughout the four- or five-week course, generally lasts about 45 minutes. The overall conscious impression the students are left with is one of a solemn and highly artistic event, in which the music and the text blend together harmoniously.

On the level of the imperceptible, however, even more has happened. The spiritually elevating aesthetic experience, during which every utterance was coded with a certain emotional content, has served to inhibit the rational, analytical faculties (generally associated with the left hemisphere of the brain), and activate the creative, artistic, and imaginative functions (usually attributed to the right hemisphere).
