The suggestopedic
classrom
The
"suggestopedic classroom" for an oral language class should
ideally be a large bright room with windows and natural
daylight, carpeted with twelve or fourteen upholstered
reclining armchairs in a semi-circle.
The
teacher sits in a similar chair in the open part of the
semi-circle; there are a flip chart and a small table
with stereo equipment beside or behind him/her.
The
atmosphere in a suggestopedic classroom is one of club-like
congeniality that contrasts sharply from the traditional
classroom with rows of desks, hard floors, blackboards
and chalk dust. Pictures on the walls, flowers on the
table and soft lighting suggest relaxation. comfort and
success, and avoid associations with any negative memories
of school.
