There are five fragments of music,

and 22 pages of text: but they seem to have nothing to do with each other.

The music fragments are written on a different sort of paper from the text pages - smoother and thinner - and are cut to a smaller size, 10 cm x 15 cm. It seems clear from both the paper and the writing that the five music pages come from a single source.

They are here called nos. 1 - 5, according to the order in which they lie in the University's folder: the first has a folio number, 82, but none of the others are numbered, and there seems to be no question of establishing an original order.

At the time of writing, the fragments were not yet catalogued, and had no reference number.

Fragments 1, 2 and 3 appear to be whole pages, or nearly whole; both 4 and 5 consist of less than a half-page, but it became clear during the work on them that they contain two parts from the same piece: they were presumably originally part of the same page.

Each fragment has music on both sides, so there are eight pages all together.
