The computer as a tool for calligraphy

Roger wrote from New Zealand ...

I'm using the American Uncial font to mock up a large poem I've written. I am going to calligraph and illuminate it by hand, but I use the computer to do mockups so I get a reasonable feel for the look of a page before I get out the pens and brushes.

David:

When I copied Roger's text from the PDF file and pasted it into another programme to work with it, I discovered that it actually had capital letters, though these didn't show up in the font he had used.

Then I wondered if that was what he really wanted, or whether it wouldn't be more natural for a modern reader to see the capitals. And then the question arose, what different ways might there be to produce that result.
