Bitmap fonts at the wrong size
If you use a bitmap font at the wrong size, it normally looks horribly lumpy or pixelly.

Two exceptions are Adobe's programmes Photoshop and LiveMotion, which work their own special magic with Adobe's Garamond bitmap font at all different sizes so you can't see that it was working from a bitmap at all.
At least, they do in the regular style - even they couldn't manage the italic and bold versions; and they could only do it with Adobe's own Garamond font, they couldn't do it at all with someone else's Garamond which I edited to leave only 18 pt. bitmaps.
