The taverna she sends me to is just as remarkable, a completely genuine old place, but again done up very tastefully, with polished wooden floor, the plaster taken off to show the original stones on the surface and new pointing in between, old wooden tools on the walls and baskets of dried onions, beans and so on ...
Georgious really seems to love it that I appreciate both the work he's put in to it and the taste he's shown - and that I've done something similar myself ... I have the cheapest thing on the menu, grilled rabbit and water, but he's as friendly as you could imagine, and we have a cup of coffee together by the olive-log fire; then, together with the bill for the things I've actually ordered, he gives me a glass of raki and a dessert, a gooey thing with semolina and peanuts ...
This time, indeed the raki actually tastes of something, and is evidently rather strong - I only had 2 km to drive afterwards ... Not exactly home-made, he says he buys it from his friend ...
