Life in the mountains

Here things are slightly less desert-like, there's a bit more growth, there are even a few stunted palm trees.

I see the way they use nets to harvest the olives: rather large ones, like fishing nets, spread out flat on the ground, with something to make an edge so the olives don't roll out of the net... several varieties of colour all cheek by jowl.

They're comfy hill roads rather than dangerous and frightening mountain ones.

I stop to talk to some goats, and take the oportunity to explore a bit: something is growing acorns, though it doesn't seem to be an oak tree. I feel around a bit and can't understand why it hurts my hand - I'm still trying to get it to be an oak tree.

Finally I cast aside my preconceptions and look at what's actually there in my hand - they are holly leaves, olive-green instead of deep Christmas-green, and tiny in size, but with holly prickles which hurt in quite the normal way ...

Anyone know anything about the Cretan Holly-Oak?
