A dream cottage!

Well, after all the fuss the Canadians made, Matala is totally dead ... When I ask at the one place which is lit and open, they say it's closed; further up the road the guy wants 6000:- drachmas for something terribly basic, and isn't prepared to haggle.

I must say this doesn't
capture what I experienced,
but it's the photo she sent me

Feeling a bit desperate I strike off the beaten track ... and find ... a dream cottage! - an old stone building perched at the top of a hilltop village overlooking the bay, done up so very tastefully with stone steps and a garden, cozy and homely with rugs on the floor and even on the walls, delightful lighting and a good table to work at ... crazy that I can only be here this one night ... but of course I can come back ... it's heated, even.

OK, so the kyria is from Hamburg ... but you can't have everything, evidently! She's been there 25 years, married to a local, she was first foreigner in the village ... Ulla she's called. Just like home.

It's a bit odd, in such a lovely place, that the window is shoulder-high and even at my height I have to stand on tip-toe to see out; I suppose it's a conversion from a cow-shed or something, and they considered that the cows didn't need a view. Perhaps also that's why there are no curtains or shutters ...
