It was a fishing village originally, although it's a good 50 miles from the open sea, and you can't imagine what they would do with the fish once they'd fetched it in, because it's even more miles to a market... This was the one place in Scotland where we saw someone wearing the kilt as a matter of course - a white-whiskered old gentleman sitting on a wall as he talked to a young women in the square. Inverary is marked on the map as the home of something called 'Arctic Penguin': however this turns out not to be a penguin at all, but a boat. Maybe the one in the photo, we weren't bored enough to find out. |
