Lawrence Baines (USA)
Lawrence Baines, professor of education at Texas Tech University, is interested in the ways that social, economic, and technological change affect learning.
He has written three books related to the teaching of English - Language Study for Middle School, High School, and Beyond; Going Bohemian; and Naked Teaching.
A fourth book, How to Get a Life, is a collection of wisdom on the art of living well from some of the most eminent men and women of all time.
Baines has written fifty or so articles which have appeared in the pages of Phi Delta Kappa, English Journal, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, Educational Horizons, The Clearing House, Journal of Thought, and other publications.
He also writes fiction and composes music for the piano.

Naked Writing
Sometimes filling up a blank page with words seems impossible. Baines will take participants through a series of exercises using prompts designed to spur creativity and enhance the quality of written expression.
By working off of some unconventional writing prompts, including music, images, and performance, participants will be asked to think and write outside the box. Naked writing is authentic writing from the heart, free of artifice, dense with meaning.

LAWRENCE SENT THE FOLLOWING IMPRESSIONS:
Ray Bradbury says that to write well, you have to "jump off cliffs and build your wings on the way down."
In the sessions on naked writing, participants took a flying leap off the edge and wound up soaring. We bounced words off of music (Adagio for Strings by Barber), images (participants' own drawings), and art (photos by Boubat, paintings by Hopper and some symbolists).
We talked about love, cried a little, laughed a lot, recited a little Shakespeare, made up some stories, and in the end, the poems ended up writing themselves.
Naked writing was a fun, fascinating session.
