Color-coding of text
- has the function of giving a visual clue to the purpose of the
words. In web pages there are four different kinds of text, which are
given different colors - and the background makes a fifth color:
- A basic text color, which could reflect the subject of
the page and its graphic style
- Links to visit need to be noticeable: but if they shout
too loud to tempt a reader somewhere else, it's hard to
concentrate on being 'here and now'...
- Links which have been visited need to be noticeable in
case the reader wants to go back: but even less loud than those
which haven't been visited
- 'Active Link' - the temporary colour the text gets
while the mouse is actually being pressed - is to tell the user
that the computer has heard what they're asking for: or maybe to
give a feeling of power...
