Lydia, my wonderful MacGuru in Tallinn, told me about how inspired she'd been by a visit to Apple in Germany, where she'd learnt about the new change of direction in the company following major changes at top management level: there was a web-page which I found really remarkable, and I'd like to share it - if you haven't already seen it...

As I understand it, the background is the idea of two competing computer platforms, one innovative, simple and elegant, the other a clumsy copy of the first - but more widespread. After the initial period of clear-sighted, dynamic new-thinking which produced the first people-friendly computers, Macintosh users experienced a long period in which Apple was busy galloping off in all directions at once, with too many goals for any of them to be clear, and no charismatic leader: following the major changes, including Steve Jobs' (interim) return to the leadership and the agreement to co-operate with Microsoft, Apple has a new profile, expressed in large-scale advertising, which focuses on creative new-thinking: "Think different" - "Here's to the crazy ones... the misfits.... the rebels... those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world: because they do".
