Lily & Morrill went on Saturday morning for piano lessons
with William Henry Stones, at 5 Avondale Road, Sparkhill, B'ham.
Very austere, knew his music: you couldn't call him at all friendly.
Morrill liked the music, but found the technical side difficult, and gave up earlier...

"We were supposed to be all in white, but perhaps people weren't told... bright blue hand-knitted (back right - Marjorie). Miss Edwards ('Fatty Edwards') used to teach music in ordinary class by Curwen's modulator - a long strip, a foot wide, rolled up top and bottom, plasticised linen, do-re-mi etc. in big letters, key of C, little letters alongside to [mutate] - She used to say 'This is yer musical girl!' because I knew it..."
