a personal decision: 1 of 5

On the one hand I have to recognise that I never earn any real money from my work with the Mac.

On the other:

- I realise that my life's work for the next x years is to formulate my insights into Renaissance music and pedagogics as an empowering force for today's world, getting it ready for global distribution

- even if there's only person interested in each of half-a-dozen countries, it's still global!

and it's no good if its impact suffers from a less-than-professional finish;

- I just discovered that the basic pension I can expect to get in Sweden one day is slightly more than I've been living on for many years, and my savings aren't exactly appreciating there in the bank. I'm also influenced by Dagmar's Russian philosophy, that you use money when you have it, and leave off worrying about it till the day when you haven't - it's far better to put them to some practical use today than wondering if they might ease possible problems tomorrow ...

- and then it's simply a question of the quality of life: what does anyone gain from my having savings in the bank, compared with my having a suite of thoroughly empowering creative tools at my finger tips, now when I have the time to use them...?

- I also have a vague thought that one day I will have to upgrade to Mac OS X, and my present programs don't work under that system: so it might even be worthwhile economically in the long run to keep reasonably up-to-date, so that I continue to qualify for upgrades later on ...
