Some
of the programmes I've looked at here are
dedicated to producing vector-graphics:
-
while others go deeper into one application
of the basic principles and deal with the
yet-more-specialised task of creating fonts
-
others handle vectors as part of something
else, like page layout
-
or animation &
multimedia
-
others are jacks-of-all-trades, or maybe maids-of-all-work
-
while at the base of it all are the companies
whose font technology or operative systems
determine how fonts and programmes interact
with the user
The
list isn't intended to be complete, but rather
to reflect the experience of one user who
is keen to try lots of different approaches,
to share and discuss experiences, and to find
one which works well for him; these are personal
notes about my own subjective experience of
using these programmes, and for some of them
I never actually met anyone who had used them,
so I had no other help than what was intuitive
and what was written, and no possibility of
discussing the problems or drawbacks I found
with another live person.
If
you read this and have experienced something
differently - and particularly if I've missed
something in a programme - I'd love you to
let
me know.
I've
first compared how the different programmes
handle the functions which are most important
for me
- tracing
- pen
tool
- brush
tool
- calligraphy
tools
- text-on-a-path
-
then there are extra notes on how I have experienced
each programme in general.
