How vector graphics are used

Flash movies

Vector graphics have long been used for cartoons and other animations: but in the last few years, the Flash format has brought this kind of work within the reach of everyone - if you can't afford Macromedia's or Adobe's prices, there are budget alternatives too, discussed in the chapter on programmes.

Here's one of my favourites, because it says so much in so little: it's waiting for you to click on it, in case it's not obvious ... If you'd like to see it larger or smaller, after you've clicked on the image alongside here, you can re-size the window which pops up and then chose refresh/reload (usually cmnd+R or ctrl+R).

You can see the whole collection on the web-site of Edinburgh's wonderful science centre, 'Our Dynamic Earth'.
