A wonderful metropolis!
If Athens airport wasn't enough to dissipate all feeling of being on holiday on Crete, the crowded Lufthansa Airbus and Munich airport certainly would have been!
On the flight Athens-Munich they just throw the food at people, with no eye contact, collecting trays before we're finished eating, creating an appalling atmosphere.
Flight announcements in Munich are delivered so stressfully fast that you can't get any meaningful information from them anyway; the key word which tells you whether the message concerns you or not - the destination - comes almost last:
"Attention-please, final-call-for-all-missing-passengers-for-Lufthansa-flight-ell-aitch-three-three-five-seven-for-Lisbon, please-go-to-gate-A-twenty-three-immediately ... "
The loo is down four flights of stairs - and back up again of course - not signposted, the only person to ask is a policeman ... though he seems very happy to have some human contact in this very inhuman ant-hill, and indeed to be just standing there waiting for something like that to happen ...
The second flight, Munich-Stockholm, isn't even one-quarter full, it feels very relaxed and almost enjoyable. One of the stewardesses has been on the same Athens-Munich flight as me, I wonder what the chances of that are ... as I go out, I sympathise with her long day, she says it was OK, she slept over in Athens and now - 2 pm - she's finished for the day and will sleep over in Stockholm ...
