They have a nice old windmill, traditional Cretan type, permanently open to visitors and the other destructive elements of nature: it strikes the visitor as simple, effective, labour-intensive.

And if you turn your back on this monument to the old way of harnessing wind power, you see a line of no less than 100 wind turbines, stretching in a straight line as far as the eye can see - and indeed further, for all I know ...

I leave the old man to his locked doors and his lunch, and betake myself to the other see-worthy goals the area has to offer, the ruined city of Ikanos and the fertile palm grove of Vai.

I don't think I want to talk about them, actually.
