Two Americans at the next table; after I hear him say "You get different sorts of olives at every single place you go to", I stop eavesdropping ...

But then when I've been to pay, he asks if he can buy me a raki - I'm glad to have a chance of trying it because I know I'll never buy one myself ... It's almost tasteless, and doesn't make me feel anything special, even after three of them... Comparing notes, we establish that I've got a remarkably good deal with my car hire, but that they got their room-for-two for the same price as I paid for just me ... But maybe they always charge by the room ...

Turns out they're actually Canadians, names are Ross and Daphne, real-estate agents from north of Toronto, so we have a fair bit to talk about with Canada and all ...

They're crazy about a place further East called Matala and it evidently feels important to them to pass on the good news to someone else ...

They ask in the taverna about getting to the famous gorge along the coast, and are offered a private boat trip to its mouth, for a mere 40.000 drachmas, the same price as I paid for 10 days car-hire ... The gorge itself is officially closed for the winter anyway.
