The History of Kettlewell Village - Arthur Raistrick

Church

Of the church there is little to say except that it was built by or under the patronage of the Percies, probably in the time of Henry I, and that of this church nothing remains but the font. This is of interest, carrying the three boars' heads of the Percy badge, a plain cylindrical body, and raised on four short pillars.

It was served until the sixteenth century by the canons of Coverham, and after that by a Vicar.

In 1819 the old structure was pulled down but the church which replaced it was in turn restored except the tower, in 1884, in the form in which we now see it, neat and pleasant, but with nothing but the font remaining to tell of its earlier history.
