OPENING HEARTS
Fourth International SEAL Conference in Argentina - February 15-16-17, 2002

Robert Gillan (UK)

Robert's professional life has all been spent in leadership roles. This has included twelve years in the Army, eight years as Head of Department at a very prestigious school in the UK, four years as Director of a Language School in the UK and most recently three years as Director of SEAL.

Since resigning that post last year he has been much in demand training managers throughout Europe in personal development. In this role he has been introducing holistic and humanistic attitudes to the otherwise arid world of international finance.

Across Storm-Tossed Seas (Plenary)

An inevitable part of the human condition is that we experience crisis. This happens to individuals and it happens to countries. On such occasions it is so easy to sink into despair. We doubt our abilities, we doubt our faith, we doubt the future: we end up being paralysed, devoid of hope.

However, it is precisely these conditions which are often the seedbed for great achievements, for new beginnings, for seeing that glimmer of light when everything around seems to be nothing but darkness.

This plenary will show us examples of how we can chart our way through the storm-tossed seas of life and so discover new lands.

Moved to Greatness

The key to success in every endeavour is motivation. It is that which moves us to achieve, to learn, to leave our comfort zones and to grow. This workshop is about what motivates us, as individuals. In the same way that we all learn differently, so we are all motivated by different factors.

For some it might be a need for security: for others it might be a need for recognition: for others still it might be a need to belong. This workshop will reveal your own unique motivational profile.

However, most of us at this Conference are primarily involved with motivating others, and so we need to understand what it is that motivates our charges, be they professional managers or school pupils.

This workshop will give you the tools to do just that.

Open your heart for a change

The only constant is change. The certainties which our parents enjoyed are gone forever. Our most important ability now is our ability to change, to adapt, to learn new information almost overnight: but change can be painful because it often means having to let go of what was familiar to us, of what was comfortable.

Whether or not we can cope with change and so move on and progress depends on our attitude and our willingness to open our hearts to the new opportunities which change presents to us.
